Spiritual Communion Prayers & Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament

Spiritual Communion
Spiritual Communion

Spiritual Communion is a practice among Christians of desiring union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist as a response to God’s own desire for union. It is used as a preparation for Holy Mass, and also by individuals who cannot receive Holy Communion Sacramentally (e.g. a state of being bedridden, absence of a priest/minister, severe illness).

The value of a Spiritual Communion well done is great. We can and we must make a Spiritual Communion often. This is a very simple act. It is done simply by thinking of Jesus and His great Love for you, and in our Love for Him. Then we have to ask the Holy Virgin to implore to her Divine Son to come to our hearts.

These Spiritual Communions can be offered in the interests of the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our special intentions can be added, as well.

Adore Jesus Christ, who thus visits your soul by His grace, and say to him:

Corpus Domini nostri Jesu Christi, custodiat animam meam in vitam aeternam. Amen.I give thee, O Jesus, this heart of mine,
that thou mayest dwell in it, and do with me what thou wilt. Amen.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYERS

BEFORE COMMUNION

I believe, O Lord, and confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the Living God, who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. Accept me this day, O Son of God, as a partaker of Your mystical supper. I will not reveal your mystery to Your enemies, nor shall I give you a kiss like that of Judas, but like the thief, I confess to you: Remember me, O Lord, when you come into your kingdom. Remember me, O Master, when You come into Your kingdom. Remember me, O Holy One, when You come into your Kingdom. May this spiritual partaking of Your holy Mysteries, O Lord, be not for my judgment or condemnation but for the healing of soul and body. God, be merciful to me, a sinner. God, cleanse me of my sins and have mercy on me. I have sinned without number, forgive me, O Lord.

COMMUNION

O Eucharistic Heart of Jesus,
I wish to be united with your eternal oblation to the Father,
with each Eucharistic sacrifice
being offered at this moment upon this earth.
Lord, Jesus, come and dwell in my heart,
nourish me with the Bread of Life, Yourself;
cleanse, wash and purify me in the bath of Your Precious Blood.

Our Father, Who art in heaven;
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our supersubstantial bread (the Bread of Life);
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen

Or, say the following prayer by a prescript of November 24. 1922 the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences approved the following formula for a Spiritual Communion:

O Jesus. I turn toward the holy tabernacle
where You live hidden for love of me.
I love you, O my God.
I cannot receive you in Holy Communion.
Come nevertheless and visit me with Your grace.
Come spiritually into my heart.
Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own.
Amen.

Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.”

An indulgence of 500 days, if thrice repeated.
(129
The Raccolta 1944).

AFTER HOLY COMMUNION

Having been made worthy in a mystical way to partake of Your immaculate Body and precious Blood, O Christ Our God, I acclaim and bless, worship and glorify You, and proclaim the greatness of your saving acts, now and forever and ever. Amen.

How To Pray the Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament

How To Pray the Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament
Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament

The Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament was approved on May 30, 1911 by Pope Pius X. The Holy Father has granted to the entire world 300 days indulgence each time the above prayer is recited.

This Chaplet consists of a medal of the Blessed Sacrament and 33 beads. The 33 beads represent the 33 years of Christ’s life on earth.

On the medal make a spiritual communion:

My Jesus, I believe that Thou art present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love Thee above all things and I desire Thee in my soul. Since I cannot now receive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though Thou wert already there, I embrace Thee and unite myself wholly to Thee; permit not that I should ever be separated from Thee. Amen.
(Prayer by St. Alphonsus Maria de’ Ligouri.)

On each bead say:

“Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament on the altar have mercy on us!”

On the medal it states that 300 days indulgence each time you say, “Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us!” That means 27 years indulgence every time you say this chaplet!
