The St Benedict Cross features a very special St Benedict Crucifix Medal on the front and back side of the cross. The design of this medal was made by Pope Benedict XIV. On one side there is an image of St. Benedict and on his right hand he has the monastic rule of Saint Benedict.

St Benedict Crucifix is used for protection against the devil’s temptations

  • To destroy witchcraft and all other diabolical and haunting influences;
  • To impart protection to persons tempted, deluded, or tormented by evil spirits;
  • To obtain the conversion of sinners into the Catholic Church, especially when they are in danger of death;
  • To serve as an armor against temptation;
  • To destroy the effects of poison;
  • To secure a timely and healthy birth for children;
  • To afford protection against storms and lightning;
  • To serve as an efficacious remedy for bodily afflictions and a means of protection against contagious diseases.

The cross bears the medal with the initial letters of the words: “Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux” (The Holy Cross be my light), written downward on the perpendicular bar; the initial letters of the words, “Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux”(Let not the dragon be my guide), on the horizontal bar; and the initial letters of “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” in the angles of the cross. Round the margin stand the initial letters of the distich: “Vade Retro Satana, Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana — Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas” (Begone, Satan, do not suggest to me thy vanities — evil are the things thou profferest, drink thou thy own poison). At the top of the cross usually stands the wordPax (peace) or the monogram I H S (Jesus).

St. Benedict Sterling Silver Crucifix

Our Sterling silver medals/crosses are at least 92.5 percent pure silver. Copper is typically combined to improve the metal’s hardness and durability without compromising the quality and look of the silver.

Sterling Silver cross is marked with a quality stamp to ensure the content of the silver. Federal law mandates that the quality stamp must include the maker’s mark. You will find either “Sterling Bliss” or “Sterling BLI” on the back of our medals – both acceptable quality marks.

14 Karat Gold Filled Crucifix

14kt Gold filled, also known as rolled gold is made up of a solid layer of 14 Karat Gold bonded with a base metal, such as brass, on both the front and back of the medal. Total content of Gold is 1/20 of the weight of the medal.

14 Karat Gold Crucifix

Our 14 Karat Gold is composed of 58.3 percent pure gold and is ideal for fine jewelry. Other alloys, such as copper, are mixed in with the gold to give more of a red warm hue. This also give the metal strength. Since gold is a natural element, it is very durable. We do recommend removing the jewelry if it may come in contact with chemicals. To clean gold jewelry, use warm water and detergent free soap and a soft brush.
