Pius V instituted “Our Lady of Victory” as an annual feast to commemorate the victory at Lepanto, which he attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, also known as Feast of Our Lady of Victory, is celebrated on 7 October in honor of a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion.
