About Saint Andrew

The New Testament records that St Andrew was a son of Jonah, or John. He was born in Bethsaida on the Sea of Galilee. Both he and his brother Peter were fishermen by trade, hence the tradition that Jesus called them to be his disciples by saying that He will make them “fishers of men.” At the beginning of Jesus’ public life they occupied the same house at Capernaum. The Gospel of John teaches that Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist, whose testimony first led him and John the Evangelist to follow Jesus. Andrew at once recognized Jesus as the Messiah, and hastened to introduce him to his brother. Thenceforth the two brothers were disciples of Christ. On a subsequent occasion, prior to the final call to the apostolate, they were called to a closer companionship, and then they left all things to follow Jesus. In the gospels Andrew is referred to as being present on some important occasions as one of the disciples more closely attached to Jesus, but in Acts there is only a bare mention of him. Andrew is said to have been martyred by crucifixion at Patras (Patrae) in Achaea. Though early texts, such as the Acts of Andrew known to Gregory of Tours, describe Andrew bound, not nailed, to a Latin cross of the kind on which Christ was crucified, a tradition grew up that Andrew had been crucified on a cross of the form called Crux decussata (X-shaped cross) and commonly known as “St. Andrew’s cross”; this was performed at his own request, as he deemed himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross on which Christ was crucified.

About Bliss Christian Jewelry

Saint Andrew the Apostle Medal in Sterling Silver

Our Sterling silver medals are at least 92.5 percent pure silver. Copper is typically combined to improve the metal’s hardness and durability without compromising the quality and look of the silver.

Sterling Silver medals are marked with a quality stamp to ensure the content of the silver. Federal law mandates that the quality stamp must include the maker’s mark. You will find either “Sterling Bliss” or “Sterling BLI” on the back of our medals – both acceptable quality marks.

Saint Andrew 14 Karat Gold Filled Medal

14kt Gold filled, also known as rolled gold is made up of a solid layer of 14 Karat Gold bonded with a base metal, such as brass, on both the front and back of the medal.

Saint Andrew 14 Karat Gold Medal

Our 14 Karat Gold is composed of 58.3 percent pure gold and is ideal for fine jewelry. Other alloys, such as copper, are mixed in with the gold to give more of a red warm hue. This also give the metal strength. Since gold is a natural element, it is very durable. We do recommend removing the jewelry if it may come in contact with chemicals. To clean gold jewelry, use warm water and detergent free soap and a soft brush.
